I. Current Season — 2026

Founding Period  ·  Open to All Rated & Provisional Members
Founding Period in effect. The IRF is currently in its founding period (fewer than 20 Rated Members). The schedule below reflects the simplified founding-period calendar: three Open Swiss Qualifiers and a World Championship match. No divisional promotion or relegation applies. All Rated Members and Provisional Members who have completed at least two rated games are eligible to participate. See Charter § VII for the full regulations.

June 2026 Open Swiss Qualifier II — Rapid/Classical mix, 7 rounds Open (A & B) Upcoming
Sept. 2026 Open Swiss Qualifier III — Rapid/Classical mix, 7 rounds Open (A & B) Upcoming
Dec. 2026 World Championship — Format TBD by membership count at registration Open (A & B) Upcoming

Correspondence games and bilateral match games played outside of the scheduled events are rated year-round and are recorded in the Game Results Register. Members seeking correspondence opponents should contact the administrator.

II. How Results Are Published

Each completed tournament has its own dedicated results page, linked from the table above. These pages contain the full pairing schedule, individual round results, final standings, and tiebreak information. They are permanent records and do not change after the event concludes.

File naming convention

Individual tournament pages follow the naming pattern below. Once created, they are linked from this page and from the archive in Section IV.

File name Event
tournament-YYYY-03-2a.html Open Swiss Qualifier I (March)
tournament-YYYY-06-2a.html Open Swiss Qualifier II (June)
tournament-YYYY-09-2a.html Open Swiss Qualifier III (September)
tournament-YYYY-wc.html World Championship match
tournament-YYYY-01-1a.html Division 1A Quarterly Round Robin Q1 (mature period)
tournament-YYYY-01-1b.html Division 1B Quarterly Round Robin Q1 (mature period)

Creating a tournament page

  1. The IRF administrator runs the event using the IRF tournament tools: roundrobin.html (for round robins) or swiss.html (for Swiss qualifiers).
  2. Enter all pairings and results as the tournament progresses. The tools compute standings and tiebreaks automatically.
  3. When the event is complete, click Copy Full Report in the export section. This copies ready-to-paste HTML in the site’s parchment style.
  4. Open tournament-template.html, replace the placeholder content block with the copied HTML, update the title and metadata at the top, and save the file with the appropriate name above.
  5. Update the Results column in Section I of this page with a link to the new file, and add a row to the archive in Section IV.

III. The Mature Annual Calendar

Applies once 20 or more Rated Members have been reached

Once the total number of Rated Members reaches twenty, the IRF transitions to the full divisional calendar at the start of the following year. The mature calendar is reproduced here for reference; see Charter § VII for the complete regulations governing promotion, relegation, and invitation procedures.

January Q1 Round Robin Div 1A & 1B
March Swiss Qualifier I Div 2A & 2B
April Q2 Round Robin Div 1A & 1B
June Swiss Qualifier II Div 2A & 2B
July Q3 Round Robin Div 1A & 1B
September Swiss Qualifier III Div 2A & 2B
October Q4 Round Robin Div 1A & 1B
December World Championship Div 1A & 1B

All Division 1 quarterly events use the Classical time control (90 min + 30 s/move) for all games, with Rapid as a playoff tiebreak. All Division 2 Swiss Qualifiers use a Rapid/Classical mix: all rounds Rapid, the final round Classical. The World Championship is a classical match play event; see Charter § VII.

Promotion and relegation. At the close of each season: the two Division 1 players with the lowest cumulative game points across all four quarterly round robins are relegated to Division 2. The two Division 2 players with the highest cumulative points across the three Swiss Qualifiers are promoted to Division 1. See Charter § VII for tiebreak rules governing promotion.

V. Individual Game Register & Rating List

The Results Register is the IRF’s game-by-game record of every rated Raumschach game played under IRF auspices, together with the current EloR rating list. Tournament games are cross-referenced by event name. This page (Tournaments) covers the tournament-level narrative — schedules, standings, and winners; the Results Register covers the underlying game data.

Members wishing to participate in upcoming events should ensure they are registered and, where applicable, have completed at least two rated games before registration opens. To register or submit game scores, contact the administrator.
